    Start with an original character from the Chatale library, or create your own in a few lines.

    Choose who you play, where the story opens and how long replies should be. Or keep the defaults and start.

    Text the way you would with a friend. The character answers in their own voice, and the story keeps track of what happened.

What is Chatale?

Chatale (said "chat-tail", from chat and tale) is an AI roleplay app for iPhone and Android. You text with AI characters in a messaging interface, play your own character, and build a story together one message at a time.

When does Chatale launch?

Chatale is in development and has no release date yet. Join the waitlist and we will send you one email when it is out.

Will Chatale be on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Chatale is being built as native apps for both iPhone and Android, and will launch in English.

How much will Chatale cost?

Pricing has not been decided yet. It will be announced before launch, and waitlist members will hear first.

Are the characters real people?

No. Every character in Chatale is an AI, and the app says so. The stories are fiction you write together with the character.

Will Chatale remember my story?

That is the main thing Chatale is built for. Events, places and what each character knows are meant to carry forward from one session to the next, and you can correct a fact when the story gets it wrong.

Can I play as my own persona?

Yes. Before a story starts you describe who you play, and the character treats you as that person throughout. You can change your persona and the scene later.

Will the AI speak or act for my character?

It should not. Characters in Chatale speak and act for themselves and leave your character to you. If a reply ever does, edit it, ask for a different reply, or rewind to an earlier point in the story.

Can I create my own characters?

Yes. Chatale will include a small library of original characters, and you will be able to create private characters of your own.

Why use a roleplay app instead of ChatGPT?

General assistants can roleplay, but you manage the story yourself: re-explaining the plot, reminding them who you play, fixing drift by hand. Chatale is built for the story, with your persona, the scene and the important facts kept alongside the chat.

Are my stories private?

Chatale is designed for private stories: there is no public feed, and your chats are not shown to other people. How your data is processed and stored will be set out in a privacy policy before launch.

Will Chatale have voice, images or group chats?

Not at launch. The first version is text: one-to-one story chats with a character. Voice, images and group scenes may come later.

Is Chatale a Character.AI alternative?

Chatale is for people who use apps like Character.AI for roleplay and want the story itself to hold together. It is built around one story at a time: a clean messaging layout, a story that keeps track of what happened, characters who keep their voice, and you in charge of your own character. Whether it does that better is for you to judge once it launches.
